Cannot configure windows sync client

I’m switching from Nextcloud after having endless issues with it. Installed SeaFile on my server, now installed the windows sync client.

I can’t even get through the initial configuration dialog. First it stopped reacting to clicks after I selected the root path and I had to force close it through task manager. Then I made it to the next page by just copying the path directly into the text box, but I can’t even paste the server URL before it crashes and disappears.

Any way I can fix this, help finding the bug, or suggestions for a stable self-hosted sync tool? Because that seems to be something of a unicorn.

Welcome to the Seafile Forum!

Nextcloud tries to be the one-app-fits-all and fails. Seafile does one thing and does it right. Seafile is the unicorn you are looking for.

If the client crashes on your computer, it’s likely it has something to do with the specific setup of your machine. (I assume you are using version 7, not the beta of 8.)

You help us troubleshoot your problem by providing some pertinent info such as

  • your OS (Windows version, edition, architecture)
  • your Seafile client
  • log files
  • AV installed

Stability and efficient file syncing is really all I want.

OS: Windows 10 Pro, 20H2, Build 19042.685, 64bit
Client: Version 7, downloaded today
AV: windows defender

Hope this helps.

Try turn this off.

That worked! Weird that I missed that. It actually solved another problem with Nextcloud too (not that that makes a difference, since there were 10 other serious issues too).

Great! Now enjoy the reliable sync of Seafile
