Today I installed Windows 11 Pro on a new device and found that Desktop Syncing Client 8.0.4 cannot be installed. An error message appears when installing the application and it terminates.
Is there already news about a compatible version for Windows 11?
@Jonathan I faced the same problem when installing Seafile Sync Client on an up-to-date Windows 10 system. (After a restart, the problem did not show up again.)
Did you modify the setup process in Seafile Sync Client 8.0.4 or 8.0.5?
@rdb No the installation process is not changed. We will keep an eye on this issue though. If more people can reproduce it we will look more close into it.
I’m having the same problem. Windows 11 has been out for months it’s really unfortunate that there hasn’t been a release for it from Seafile, this stuff is important to a lot of people’s workflow…
I installed 8.0.5 on two Win 11Pro boxes (fresh install) in the past days without any issue, everything works as expected. So it’s not a general issue.
Installation required a restart, though. It was “complaining” about 2 components, I don’t remember seeing on Win 10 during an installation/upgrade.
We don’t know the cause of this installation problem yet. If anyone would like to run the below command from command line, it may help us debug the problem:
msiexec /i SeafileClient.msi /l*v MyLogFile.txt
You may post the log messages here or send the log file to support@seafile.com.
Hi, i’m don’t sure that is the best forum to post my problem but i have the same one on a windows 10 computer.
I created a logfile and i can send you if it could help you to find an issue.
Thanks
After reading the log, the error is msi installation error code 1304. If you google about it, you’ll find many results. Some people says it’s due to anti-virus software blocking writing to the system location.
You may try to install it with administrator right, or disable anti-virus software.
I’m aware that this answer comes a bit late, but I hope it can still be helpful for others who might have the same question. Unfortunately, it seems that Desktop Syncing Client 8.0.4 is not compatible with Windows 11 at this time, and there is no news yet about a compatible version. As a workaround, you could consider switching back to Windows 10 until the issue is resolved. By the way, if you need a Windows 10 product key, you should check out the windows 10 product key reddit. They have a lot of helpful information and resources for Windows 10 users.
