Enterprise license downgrade issue: new 9-user license cannot be uploaded

We are encountering an issue when uploading a license in Seafile Enterprise.

This server was previously licensed with a 50-user Enterprise license.
Recently, we purchased a new 9-user Enterprise license, but when uploading the new license via the admin panel (System Admin → License), the system immediately reports an error and the license cannot be accepted or activated.

We have already removed all extra users. The system information page currently shows:

  • Active users / Total users: 9 / 9
  • User limit: 50

Based on this, we suspect that the server is still retaining the historical state of the previous 50-user license, which causes the new 9-user license to fail validation (license downgrade issue).

Could you please advise whether this situation requires an official license reset / downgrade process?
Is there a supported way to resolve this on an existing server?Thank you for your help.

You can upload the license file directly via Linux console instead of using teh WebUI, and then restart the system.
