We’ve encountered an issue with the SeaDrive Client v3 on both macOS and Windows. Currently, when clicking on a file to preview it, the file preview (QuickLook on Mac, or Preview in Explorer on Windows) doesn’t appear immediately. The preview only becomes available after the file is fully opened and downloaded.
It seems that the initial download process for the file is initiated once the file is actually opened, which delays the preview. This is not ideal, as users expect to see the preview immediately upon selecting a file.
My question is: @daniel.pan Is there a possibility to implement a feature that would trigger the download as soon as a file is clicked, allowing the preview to activate right away, without the need to fully open the file? This could significantly improve the user experience by providing instant previews.
Thanks in advance for your insights and suggestions!
In your screenshot, the preview works for JPG files. However, on our instance (SeafilePro 10.0.18, SeaDrive 3.0.11 on macOS Sequoia), it’s not working. Preview does work for PNG files though.
More importantly, there’s no preview for PDF files, which is a key feature for users. Some customers are still using SeaDrive v1 because of this functionality, as it helps them quickly identify invoices or check payment status.
You can check seadrive-gui.log for any errors related to jpg thumbnail generation. You can also check whether jpg thumbnails work in the web interface.
PDF thumbnails are not supported in version 10. But it’s supported in version 12 (web interface). We still need to add this support in the clients. In SeaDrive 1.0, the thumbnails for PDF files are generated by downloading the files into the client. It’s doesn’t work the same way as thumbnails in SeaDrive 3.0, which doesn’t download the files, but get the thumbnails from the server.
