New SeaDrive Client Installation on Windows

Hello,

we have many users who are working with seadrive client 3.0.12

Our Server Version is 11.0.16.

One person his having problems and i want renew the client.

Should all members in a group have the same version?

If i will install SeaDrive Client 3.0.16 or 3.0.19, is it necessary to remove the old version?

Or can install the new client ‘over’ the old version?

Best regards.

Regarding your concerns:

  1. Should all members in a group have the same client version?
While SeaDrive is designed for compatibility across various client versions with your Seafile server (version 11.0.16 in your case), we generally recommend keeping client versions consistent within a group. This practice helps ensure stable performance, avoids potential compatibility issues, and allows everyone to benefit from the latest features and bug fixes. It’s not strictly necessary for minor version differences, but it’s a best practice we advise for the smoothest experience.

  2. Is it necessary to remove the old client version (3.0.12) before installing a newer version (3.0.16 or 3.0.19)?
You can typically install a newer minor version of SeaDrive (e.g., upgrading from 3.0.12 to 3.0.16 or 3.0.19) directly over the existing installation without needing to uninstall the old version first. The SeaDrive installer for Windows is designed to handle these upgrades seamlessly. This means you should be able to run the new installer, and it will update your existing SeaDrive client. However, if you encounter any unexpected issues during the upgrade, a clean uninstall followed by a fresh installation can sometimes resolve them. For detailed instructions on silent installation, you can refer to the Seafile Admin Manual on Auto Login to SeaDrive on Windows.
