For the first time since I upgraded my Ubuntu version of Seafile 11 to 12, I had the need to restore a folder’s version. But the (web) interface no longer shows any hints on folder versioning anymore, I can only find versions on a file level. Has this feature been removed quietly, as I can’t find any info on this?
I’m not seeing any History options on a library folder either; are you trying to restore a file that was deleted in it perhaps? If so, what happens if you go to the library History after clicking on the library name on the home screen? You may find some traction there in terms of folder changes (snapshots).
Well, before v12, I had a trash icon and a versions icon top right when I entered a library in the web app, so I could click that and either restore a version of a whole library, or if I picked a sub-folder, for the sub-folder. This was one of the major features for me, to be able to restore an older state of a library or folder, especially handy because you could reliably recall a state of inter-connected files, e.g. you have a project file with linked files that should also be from the same point in time. Now there is only the ellipsis icon which holds the ‘Tags’ option.
I stand (partly) corrected. The versions for a library at least have been moved to this kind of sidebar. When you open a library, there is a list with sub-folders to the left, and at the very bottom, there is a ‘versions’ link. I couldn’t see it, as the list of sub-folders is huge in the library I tried to restore to a former state, so the link to the versions is out of screen. Without your nudge, I wouldn’t have found it.
I still don’t seem to see a way to restore a library’s sub-folder. I believe there was some way before to open it up in the web interface and see versions for the sub-folder, to only restore this from a previous state.
Hello again!
Yep, I see the same in the web interface, but when I click on the library, I get a middle column with Settings, Trash & History which gives me the functionality you are referring to. Perhaps click here to see if that functionality is there for you?
Yes, that’s what I meant with the second reply—this sidebar shows by default (or I have toggled it once), but if you have a long list of sub-folders, you don’t see the Settings, Trash and Versions buttons.
However, these buttons are only functional for the whole library, i.e. if you enter a sub-folder and click Versions, it’s still referring to the whole library, not the sub-folder. And I’m pretty positive it was possible to only restore the state of a sub-folder up until version 12.
Ah yes, no problem, I was typing my second answer with my finding after I saw you already typing a reply.
I’m pretty positive there was a way to restore a sub-folder until recently. I don’t use it all the time, but this helps if you work on multiple projects in the same library and only want the restored state of one of them. I believe I could access a sub-folder from its right-click ‘Seafile’ menu item on Windows, which would open the web app to this specific folder, where I could restore an older version.
On any account, thanks for pointing me towards the right direction. I’m glad at least library versioning is still here.
