Currently it is not possible to open password protected PDF files in the WebUI. The problem is that there is no message saying that the file is password protected and cannot be opened therefore. The webui seems to load the file forever.
@Jonathan @daniel.pan Please consider adding a freature that allows to open password protected PDF files. At a minimum show a message that informs the user that the pdf file is password protected and cannot be viewed therefore. This message could already be shown when selecting the file, blocking opening it in a new tab at that point already.
Thanks!
We will check the problem.

That ‘infinite loading’ bug in the WebUI is definitely frustrating - it would be great if it at least threw a ‘Password Required’ prompt instead of just hanging. Until that’s fixed server-side, I’ve found that the only real workaround is to either re-upload the file without protection or just manage the encryption separately. If you need to quickly check if a file is actually the problem or just want to re-apply protection in a way that’s more compatible, I’ve used Protect PDF with Password Online a few times. It’s a handy shortcut when the Seafile preview isn’t cooperating.
From our testing, the latest version already support popup a dialog for encryped PDFs.
