I didn’t say one needs or should buy something like that but I really recommend a software raid 1 as a minimum (in most cases). Especially with 2.5 desktop grade HDDs.

yes, I think thats the way I will go for: x86 board with cpu and onboard s-ata (4*hd in a raid5).
