Seadrive Client date changes in explorer after playing video

I’m using Seadrive client 3.0.19 to access and open files…

Hosted on ubuntu/docker Server Version: 12.0.14

small issue I notice is the displayed date in Windows 11 File explorer changes to 80 years earlier or so..

Before, noting the 4th line 2012-09-01 19.27.2… file

and After playing the vid…

The date has changed to 1946, and an hour earlier, which might be a daylight savings thing…

If I right click the file, before and after, the Date modified, created and accessed are all still correct… just the date in the date column that is wrong…

Tried a different media player, still the same behaviour

Set one of them to always keep on this device and it did the same thing without even playing it…

anything I’m doing wrong here?

Hello @Black-Roses ,

We were unable to reproduce this issue in our local testing. Therefore, we would like to ask you to confirm the following questions:

  1. Does the same problem occur with other types of files besides video files?

  2. What video player software are you currently using?

  3. Could you try changing the default video player to another one and check whether the problem still occurs?

So this might be a bit of a non event I’m afraid, it only appears to be those early videos from 2012/2013 that have this problem, any after that all seem to be fine,

They are all 320x240 pixels if it helps. The only oddity is one from 2011 that has kept its correct date.

An observation is that the errant files all now have an exif data tag in the properties → details tab called ‘Media Created’ under Origin heading, which has the 1946/47 date entry assigned to it… Couldn’t say what they had previously - in all the other files I checked that field is empty. At least I can change it back now…

different players didn’t affect it, i tried a VLC and Potplayer before posting originally, nothing in any of the other file types or libraries seems to be a problem either. It was the camera uploads folder this occurred in, with the first half dozen or so files…

HTH

PS I’m happy to upload one of them if it helps the analysis…

Hello @billywicks

Thanks for the detailed information — this is very helpful.

Based on your description, this behavior is likely related to how file metadata is handled before and after the file is fully downloaded.

When the file is not yet downloaded locally, it exist as a placeholder file. In this state, the system displays metadata (such as modified time) based on the server-side information. After the file is downloaded, the system can access embedded metadata (such as EXIF), and in your case, it seems the “Media Created” field is being read and used, which may explain why some files show dates like 1946/1947.

This would also explain why:

  • Only some older files are affected

  • The issue is consistent across different players (e.g., VLC, PotPlayer)

  • Other file types are not impacted

The fact that you can manually correct the date also suggests that the issue is tied to metadata interpretation rather than file corruption.

thanks for looking in to it, i was able to put the date back in the properties box so I’m all good now. It would be nice to know where that arbitrary 1946/47, 80 years back date came from but since it only affected a handful of files we’ll call it a windows glitch… I have another PC with seadrive on and that one seems to be fine…
